The artist in the ball

The Football World cup in Verona couldn’t do not stimulate the creative imagination of the artists who live and work for years in our city.

Giuseppe Borrello, through his unmistakable pictorial language, made of signs and ringing, Mediterranean, psychedelic colors, has wanted to express all of his sensibility for an event that goes beyond the simple athletic gesture.

The physical exertion, the desperation of the player, the anxiety of the tense public to the commemorative moment of the game, the goal, transudes from his paintings in so dramatic way and at the thrilling same time, that the dazzling impression seems to be fixed in the retina of the observer.

And here the color assumes in Giuseppe Borrello a precise meaning (the black points out the desperation, the dark, in which the defeated athlete falls, or who fail the penalty; the blue, instead, the triumph, the exult some crowd that has unloaded in the cry of the goal all the mental and emotional tension). All is dosed, studied in the least details, all lyrically moves to those lines in continuous movement, that they invite and also hock the most distracted individual to seek a deeper meaning. Its white-chalk finally, represents the purity and the raw reality of life, game and things.

The Neapolitan artist, from twenty years transplanted in our city, has anticipated us some themes of the exhibition that it will hold in Verona, to the Miniscalchi Erizzo Museum Foundation (Mammaso St. 2), next June 2, on the occasion of the World cup that will dispute At the Stadium Bentegodi, and within the entitled exhibition “the Sport for the art.”

In the “Parade” Borrello expresses the extreme, last attempt of athlete's defence, that is emmitted by the tension of the hands that are blocking the ball. The goalkeeper is in this space effort straining to defend not only the door, but the colors of their nation, people of his homeland.

“The Goal”, instead, resembles a piece of poetry by Umberto Saba: ... goalkeeper dropped 11 Defense last void ... Please note here the astonishment, the wonder of the Concierge who is pierced, defeated, beaten and shot. The dark image that wrap around the picture, indicates that the enemy, the darkness of the agonizing despair when suddenly drops the athlete passes.

“The nightmare”. Already, for Italy the rigors constitute an authentic nightmare. In this image, dense of drama, the athlete's desolation, professional or amateur it doesn't care, that he despairs for the committed mistake. The hands of the doorman that lift him, try to console the athlete, to support him, seems to want to say that the kick is only a game and nothing more.

Finally, in “Blaze” shows the explosion of joy of the crowd repeated (see part dark bottom) anxiety of seeing his suburban bracket, its national team, scoring the winning goal, ending the overwhelming jubilation in his joyous event.
It is the scene of triumph, of moral and social redemption of athlete, aware of the eco accompanying his name to cross the boundaries of each color, race, country and continent.
